Six workers’ unions are trying to have a unified negotiation with Brazilian steel and iron ore producer CSN, for the annual readjustment of salaries, among other items.

However, according to media reports, the company so far has refused to deal with a single union representing all its workers, claiming that there are wide differences among them, quoting as examples the workers in its mines that usually negotiate via the miners’ union, and the workers in its port, that negotiate via the port workers’ union.

According to the local press, the unified union commission has issued a bulletin suggesting that the workers should reduce the production pace of the operations, as an alternative to put pressure on CSN in the acceptance of the unified negotiation.

The bulletin also mentions that CSN wants to impose a readjustment lower than the yearly index of inflation and no workers participation in its profits.
