Media reports said that due to a weak demand for steel in the domestic market Brazil steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) could reduce output in 2016.

A media report said CSN is likely to reduce production at its blast furnace No. 2 at its Volta Redonda mill, in the city of same name in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The halt could last for about 90 days.

If the move is confirmed, CSN could then see production decline 30 percent in 2016. CSN’s installed capacity is 5.6 million mt.

Reports said CSN took the same move in 2009, idling a blast furnace for 90 days.
