The German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp announced on January 23 that the Rotterdam court has refused to take legal action to force the release of the shares of the Canadian steelmaker Dofasco from the Dutch foundation Strategic Steel Stichting. On December 22, ThyssenKrupp filed a petition against Mittal Steel at the Rotterdam court to obtain judicial clarification of the sale of Dofasco to it, as had been previously bindingly agreed by Mittal Steel. The clarification became necessary after the Stichting refused to transfer Dofasco shares to Arcelor Mittal. In addition, ThyssenKrupp has announced that in the light of the current developments, it will pursue its plans to build a steel mill in the USA to increase its presence in the region.
