Colombian ferronickel export value up 70 percent in July

Production in the Colombian manufacturing industry increased by 1.7 percent in July this year compared to the same month of 2011, as announced by the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).

In the month in question, Colombia's basic iron and steel production increased by 20.2 percent on year-on-year basis, In the first seven months of the current year, Colombia's basic iron and steel production increased by 20.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In July this year, Colombia's iron and steel exports value rose by 74.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and fell 22.9 percent compared to June, coming to $75.7 million, while the country's ferronickel export value increased 70 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, but down 15.7 percent month on month, to $54.1 million. In the first seven months of this year, Colombia's ferronickel export value rose by 22.2 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching $528.8 million.
