Colombia may get reimbursed for the import tariffs applied to their steel exports to the US in the event the South American country is excluded from the US Section 232 tariffs, according to a media report from Portafolio.

“The (US) Commerce Secretary suggested … the (US) could apply a sort of a guarantee to reimburse the tariffs companies may pay,” said Maria Gutierrez, Colombia’s commerce minister.

She indicated there could be a chance Colombia could get the tariff exemption by May 1, but did not provide further details. Gutierrez met US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross during the Summit of the Americas held last week in Lima, Peru.
