The continued shortage of coal supply has not only placed pressure on the Indian power sector, but has also weakened investor confidence in new power projects in the country, according to a report in India's leading business newspaper Business Standard.

India's power sector is heavily dependent on coal-fired thermal power projects. In the last Indian fiscal year up to the end of April, coal-fired power generation accounted for 66 percent of total electricity generation in India.
