India-based coal miner Coal India Ltd has stated that it plans to ask the Indonesian government to allocate it a coal mine, and that is also is considering a joint venture with a state-run mining company in Indonesia.

Coal India's interim chairman Nirmal Chandra Jha said that Coal India has successfully obtained allocation of only two blocks in Mozambique so far. Now the company wants to get an allocation in Indonesia as well. However, the Indonesia plans will be finalized only after studying upcoming changes in mining regulations.

However, India's coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said Coal India's main work is to provide coal and develop the local coal sector, instead of purchasing coal properties overseas or to import coal
