In September this year, coal exports from Australian ports Hay Point, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), Abbot Point and Gladstone located in the state of Queensland decreased by 4.0 percent year on year and by 6.9 percent month on month to 15.4 million mt, according to data released by North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation and Gladstone Ports Corporation.
In particular, coal exports from the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) in the given month totaled 5.33 million mt, down 1.9 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in September the shipments from Hay Point decreased by 41.1 percent year on year to 2.3 million mt, while shipments from Abbot Point amounted to 2.44 million mt, up 1.4 percent year on year. In addition, exports of coal from Gladstone Port in September increased by 23.7 percent compared to the same month of 2022 to 5.4 million mt.
In September, supplies to Japan accounted for 21.9 percent of the total exports, while India, China and South Korea accounted for 21.9 percent, 21.7 percent and 18.5 percent, respectively.
In the meantime, total coal shipments from the ports in question in the January-September period of the current year amounted to 145.3 million mt, SteelOrbis has learned.
