Coal exports from the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 10.08 million mt in July this year, increasing by 22.77 percent compared to June, according to the company's announcement. 11 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals was coking coal.
In the first seven months of this year, coking coal exports constituted 12 percent of overall coal exports from PWCS, which totaled 63.6 million mt, up 0.74 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in the first seven months of the year, with shipments to Japan accounting for 43.96 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to China constituted 24.38 percent of the total.
PWCS accounts for one third of Australia's exports of coal, which is the country's second most important export commodity in terms of value.
