Coal exports from Australia's Newcastle port increase

In the week ended February 17, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 4.02 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an increase of 30.53 percent compared to the previous week ended February 10, in which a week-on-week decrease of 13 percent in coal shipments had been observed.

In the February 1-17 period, Newcastle port exported 8.28 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 11.40 million mt in the whole of February.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
