Coal exports from the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales,
Australia, totaled 8.3 million mt in May this year, falling by 12 percent compared to April, according to the company's announcement. 17 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals was
coking coal.
In the first five months of this year,
coking coal exports also constituted 17 percent of overall coal exports from PWCS, which totaled 44 million mt, up 5.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in the first five months of the year, with shipments to Japan accounting for 52.7 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to China made up 18.7 percent of the total.
