On April 23, 2008, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) announced that it initiated an expiry review on its findings made on January 9, 2004, based on the inquiry conducted by the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) concerning the dumping of hot rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate from the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Romania.
On January 9, 2004, the CITT announced its determination regarding imports of the subject merchandise from the above cited countries. Accordingly, the CITT determined that dumping of hot rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate imported from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Romania had caused material injury to the Canadian domestic industry and, hence, that such imports would be subject to antidumping duty.
On August 21, 2008 the Canada Border Services Agency will determine if there is likelihood of resumed or continued dumping. In the event of a positive determination, the tribunal will determine, on January 8, 2009, whether the continued or resumed dumping is likely to result in injury or retardation.
