As reported by Chinese media sources, from the start of the current year many provinces and cities in China have issued their new ad valorem coal resource taxes, with the highest tax rate of nine percent seen in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the lowest tax rate of two percent observed in Beijing and in other provinces. Overall, the coal resource tax rates are higher in areas that produce coal and are lower in provinces which have to buy coal. Apart from Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, most provinces have announced their coal resource tax rates as of January 15.
Other rates include eight percent in Shanxi Province, 6.5 percent in Ningxia, six percent in Shaanxi and in Qinghai, 5.5 percent in Yunnan, five percent in Guizhou, four percent in Shandong, three percent in Chongqing, 2.5 percent in Gansu, Hunan, Sichuan and Guangxi, and two percent in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Beijing, Hebei, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian and Hubei.
