China’s steel scrap imports down 86.3 percent in 2019

In 2019, China’s import volumes of steel scrap amounted to 180,000 mt, down 86.3 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities. In particular, following zero scrap imports to China in November and October of 2019, the country did not import any scrap in December either.

China exported 21 mt of scrap in December, down 92.8 percent year on year. In 2019, China’s export volumes of scrap amounted to 2,728 mt, down 99.2 percent year on year, with the declining pace remaining stable compared to the January-November period.
