China’s coking coal imports down 72.5% in December, up 14% in 2019

China imported 1.7 million mt of coking coal in December last year, down 72.5 percent compared to November and down 45.7 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics issued by Chinese customs.

In 2019, China imported 74.5 million mt of coking coal, up 14 percent year on year, down three percentage points from the growth rate recorded in the January-November period of the year.

China’s measures to control the import volume of coking coal exerted a negative impact on coking coal imports in December.
