Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera have signed new agreements on cooperation in the mining, banking, agricultural and telecommunication sectors at a ceremony held at the presidential palace in the Chilean capital Santiago.

In the mining sector, China Minmetals Corp signed a memorandum of understanding on increased cooperation with Codelco, Chile's state copper mining company. China is the largest copper importer, while Chile is the world's largest copper producer.

The banking agreements include financial cooperation between the Development Bank of China and BancoEstado SA, one of Chile's largest banks, and cooperation between the banking regulators in both countries.
