China’s steel bar exports down 21.9 percent in January-August

In August this year, China’s export volumes of steel bars, steel plate and wire rod amounted to 1.03 million mt, 3.41 million mt and 180,000 mt, decreasing by 8.4 percent, 14.9 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively, year on year, while exports of angles/channels totaled 320,000 mt, up 33.9 percent year on year, according to the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-August period of the current year, China's export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels and steel plate amounted to 9.39 million mt, 2.41 million mt, and 26.95 million mt, down 21.9 percent, 4.3 percent, and 13.3 percent year on year, respectively, while wire rod exports totaled 1.43 million mt, up 1.4 percent year on year. 

In August, China exported 5.875 million mt of finished steel, down 0.19 percent month on month and decreasing by 9.9 percent year on year, while the country’s finished steel exports in the January-August period of the current year totaled 47.179 million mt, down 13.1 percent year on year, as previously announced by the Chinese customs authorities.
