China’s stainless steel imports decrease by 48.74 percent in Jan-May

In May this year, China imported 141,700 mt of stainless steel products, up 16.09 percent month on month, while declining by 38.35 percent year on year, as announced by the Stainless Steel Council of China Iron and Steel Association (CISA). China exported 352,100 mt of stainless steel in May, down 27.67 percent year on year, while falling by 6.43 percent month on month, as announced by the Stainless Steel Council of CISA.

In May, China’s net export volume of stainless steel amounted to 210,400 mt, down 17.23 percent month on month, while decreasing by 52.78 percent year on year. 

In the given month, China’s stainless steel scrap imports totaled 25,498.997 mt, down 32.35 percent month on month, while increasing by 18,440 mt or 261.35 percent year on year. 

In the January-May period this year, China imported 724,700 mt of stainless steel products, down 48.74 percent year on year, while exported 1.6956 million mt of stainless steel products, down 12.17 percent year on year. 

In the first five months of the current year, China’s net export volume of stainless steel totaled 970,900 mt, down 21.8 percent year on year, though China’s stainless steel scrap imports amounted to 166,192.467 mt in the given period.
