China’s interim tariffs to remain in effect for steel products in 2010

Effective from January 1, 2010, China will adjust its tariff policy, making changes to the ‘most favored nation' rate, the interim tariff rate, preferential tariff rate, special preferential tariff rate and other tariff items, as announced by the Chinese Ministry of Finance (MOF). After the adjustment, the number of tariff items will be increased to 7,923, compared to 7,868 in 2009, with the general tariff rate at 9.8 percent.

The MOF also announced that China will continue to apply interim tariff rates for exported crude oil, wood pulp, ferroalloy, semis, certain steel products and other products that are classified as resources and energy products with strong environmental impact.
