In December last year, excavator sales in China rose to 20,155 units, up 839 units from November, while increasing by 25.8 percent year on year, 4.1 percentage points faster than the year-on-year growth recorded in November, as announced by the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA). The growth of China’s excavator sales was strong in December, with year-on-year growth above 10 percent for the sixth consecutive month and monthly sales of over 10,000 units for the 28th consecutive month, reflecting the ongoing rapid growth of infrastructure construction in China.
In December, excavator sales in the domestic market amounted to 17,238 units, up 20.7 percent year on year, while sales to the export market totaled 2,917 units, up 66.8 percent year on year.
In the full year of 2019, China’s excavator sales amounted to 235,693 units, up 15.9 percent year on year. Sales in the domestic market amounted to 209,077 units, up 13.4 percent year on year, while sales to the export market totaled 26,616 units, up 39.4 percent year on year.
Market analysts hold diverse views of the future prospects of the domestic machinery industry. Some consider that excavators will enter a peak period of upgrading and that demand for machinery will increase further due to the expected increase in investments in infrastructure and manufacturing. However, others think that excavator sales in 2020 are unlikely to maintain their high-level of growth due to the strong base level of excavator sales in 2019.
