In the January-April period this year, China’s output of pig iron, crude steel and finished steel totaled 282.28 million mt, 331.12 million mt and 471.94 million mt, decreasing by 3.1 percent, 4.1 percent, and 1.3 percent year on year, respectively, as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The decline in crude steel output in the first four months signaled that China’s crude steel output maintained the decreasing trend amid the supply-side structural reform and self-discipline in production control of steel industry.

In April alone, China’s output of pig iron, crude steel and finished steel totaled 70.69 million mt, 83,63 million mt and 122.63 million mt, decreasing by 3.6 percent, 2.8 percent and 1.7 percent year on year, while declining by 3.5 percent, 3.9 percent and 6.4 percent month on month, respectively.
