The Chilean steel institute, ICHA, said a committee is currently reviewing the nation’s NCh 203 structural steel norm, which needs to be updated.

ICHA said 16 professionals from different sectors within the structural steel supply chain joined the committee, whose goal is to analyze both the existing regulation as well as international standards for structural steel.

The committee held its first meeting and agreed to work in four major normative groups, including steel for buildings, steel for cold-formed sections, high resistance steel for improved corrosion and steel with improved weldability.

ICHA said the existing regulation dates back 2006 and despite considering structural steel used in the country, the products falling under this category have increased and specialized, making an update necessary.
