Russian mining and steel group Mechel has announced that its subsidiary Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant has started production of Z-sections - Z310, a new type of section for the wagon-building market.
According to Mechel, the new product produced at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant’s universal rolling mill is being produced from high-strength steel which guarantees wagons long service life and stress resistance. The important characteristic of the product is its complex Z-shaped form.
Anatoly Schetinin, managing director of Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, stated that this type of sections is in high demand in the market and that Russian wagon building and wagon repair facilities will be prime customers of the plant’s new product.
Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant has been producing steel sections and shapes since 2013 when the universal rolling mill was launched. The plant has now mastered production of over 50 shape and section types as well as four types of rails. The plant supplies its steel products to Russian railway monopoly Russian Railways, Russian steel structure producers, wagon builders and steelworks, and also exports them, primarily to the European Union.
