In an ordinary general assembly of the National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero), the director and son of the founder of the Mexican steel company DeAcero, David Gutierrez Muguerza, was re-elected as chairman for the period of 2023-2024.

Gutierrez Muguerza was first elected as president of the Canacero in December 2021. At that time, he pointed out his concern about the reforms to the electricity sector for the steel industry, for being one of the largest consumers of this input.

At the general assembly, he told the head of the Ministry of Economy (SE), Raquel Buenrostro Sanchez, that Canacero will continue working with the federal government to reinforce defense mechanisms against unfair practices, through the strict application of the Foreign Trade Law and the Customs Law.

Gutierrez Muguerza said that Canacero and the Ministry of Economy must defend steel exports to the United States because they are a complementary market without affecting jobs.

The businessman said that the steel sector supports the fight against climate change and the promotion of decarbonization, which reflects that Mexico registers emissions 38% lower than the world average.
