According to latest news in the market, Burger Iron Corporation, stating that it can no longer compete in structural steel market, closed one of its subsidiaries Burger Structural Steel Corp., located in Akron. The interesting thing about the shut down was the closure took place in half an hour after the declaration. Upon the sudden closure of the mill, United Steel Workers of America (USWA) commenced negotiation with the company for a shut down agreement. The union and the company agreed upon severance pay and short-term health insurance benefits. Burger Structural Steel Corp. was the oldest subsidiary of Burger Iron Corp, which was founded in 1896.
