Building permits in Turkey down 23.5 percent in Q1

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the number of buildings authorized by building permits from municipalities in Turkey in the January-March period of the current year amounted to 22,481, down 23.5 percent from 29,396 registered during the same period of the previous year. In the first three months of 2016, the number of buildings authorized by municipality building permits totaled 33,979.

In the first quarter of this year, the value of the buildings in question fell by 19.8 percent year on year to TRY 37.87 billion ($8.15 billion), while the total number of apartments authorized by building permits recorded a decrease of 41.9 percent to 135,521, both year on year.

Meanwhile, in the three months this year the number of buildings given occupancy permits by municipalities in Turkey increased by 3.4 percent to 27,950 buildings, compared to the first three months of 2017.
