Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau has announced that its subsidiary Gerdau Aços Longos specialized in long steel production and domestic solar energy company Newave Energia will begin the construction of a new solar park in Barro Alto.

The solar park in question entailing an investment of about BRL 1.3 billion ($211.70 million) will have a total capacity of about 452 MWp, with its construction expected to be completed in the first half of 2026. Following its commissioning, the solar park will supply 66 percent of its average renewable energy volume to Gerdau’s production units in Brazil.

Additionally, together with the Arinos solar park with a capacity of 420 MWp, the project will allow the Brazilian steelmaker to cut its emissions by 65,000 tons per year.
