The Brazilian exports of pig iron have reached 407,700 mt in January 2026, against 273,100 mt in December 2025, according to the foreign trade authority SECEX.

The increase reflects chiefly higher volume exported to the US.

The destinations in January were the US (306,800 mt at $388/mt), Europe (65,200 mt at $413/mt), Mexico (33,500 mt at $375/mt), Asia (1,900 mt at $489/mt) and Chile (300 mt at $500/mt).

The exports were from producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo (329,300 mt), from Pará, in the north (52,000 mt) and from Mato Grosso do Sul, in the central-western region (26,400 mt).

Such prices were probably negotiated in November 2025, with indications of the BPI grade price below $414/mt, and the foundry grade price above that level.
