In May, Brazil exported 302,600 mt of finished steel products, reaching in value $219.3 million.

Such figures compare in the same month to 341,700 mt and at $270.0 million in imports, respectively.

In April, exports totaled 111,100 mt at $108.1 million and imports 313.900 mt at $240.0 million.

Considering the first five months of 2024, exports have reached 856,200 mt at $706.7 million and imports 1.45 million mt at $1.14 billion.

The main items for both Brazilian exports and imports of finished steel products are coated flat products, HRC and CRC, which in average respond for 70 percent of the total volumes, in both cases.

There are expectations that during the last quarter of the year Brazil could become a net exporter of finished steel products, due to the recently adopted system of quotas and higher import tax for such products.
