In the first half of 2010, Byelorussian Iron and Steel Works (BMZ) registered a 0.8 percent decrease year on year in its crude steel output to 1.256 million mt.
Accordingly, during the period in question BMZ's rolled steel product output went down by 3.3 percent year on year to 1.04 million mt, while its pipe production increased by 2.2 times year on year to 47,400 mt. The plant also produced 44,600 mt of metal cord - up 20.5 percent, and 95,500 mt of steel wire - up 1.6 times, both compared to H1 2009.
Meanwhile, in the first six months of this year BMZ's sales of rolled steel products went down by 12.3 percent to 716,700 mt, while sales of pipes increased by 2.4 times to 50,600 mt, both compared to the same period last year. The plant also sold 46,000 mt of metal cord - up 1.6 times, and 96,000 mt of steel wire - up 1.7 times, both compared to January-June 2009. BMZ's total proceeds from sales in H1 2010 increased by 40 percent year on year to about $692.5 million.
In H1 2010, BMZ increased its export sales by 24.4 percent year on year to $544.2 million. Of BMZ's overall sales, the share of exports amounted to about 85 percent, with more than 70 percent of export supplies being to non-CIS countries.
