Arkansas, US-based electric-arc furnace (EAF) flat rolled steelmaker Big River Steel LLC (BRS) has signed an agreement with Koch Metallics, a subsidiary of Koch Minerals & Trading LLC, through which Koch will act as the exclusive agent to BRS for procuring metallics such as scrap, hot briquetted iron and pig iron.

According to BRS, this new strategic partnership will allow the steelmaker to further improve metallics procurement, leveraging Koch's networks, capabilities and potential for providing additional services in support of its growth initiatives. It will also enable the company to decrease costs of metallics procurement, SteelOrbis understands.

BRS is currently expanding its annual flat rolled steel production capacity to 3.3 million mt from 1.65 million mt and it expects this expansion to be completed before the end of the current year, two months ahead of schedule.
