Argentina’s new left-wing president, Alberto Fernandez, was expected to announce Monday a series of emergency measures to aid the struggling South American economy. The measures include increasing a tax over all purchases made abroad to 30 percent, including purchases made in USD, according to different media reports.

President Fernandez is also expected to declare a state of emergency for the nation’s economy, social and health areas. Argentina’s economy is forecasted to see its inflation reach 55 percent this year.

Fernandez is also expected to demand employers to avoid dismissals for a six-month period, in a move to aid the local economy. The proposed measures also include increased export duties on farms.
