Argentina's crude steel output rises nine percent in July from June

Argentina produced 377,500 metric tons (mt) of crude steel in July, up from 346,300 mt in June, according to data from Acero Argentino (AA), Argentina's steel industry chamber.

On the same comparable basis, HRC output fell 10.6 percent to 172,200 mt, CRC output dropped 20.7 percent to 81,800 mt, while long products output rose 13.7 percent to 147,000 mt, AA said.

Compared with July 2025, crude steel production increased 15.3 percent, HRC output rose 15.4 percent, CRC output fell 20.7 percent, and long products production grew 14.6 percent.

In a statement, AA said industrial activity continues to be driven almost entirely by growth in energy and agriculture, with mining contributing a lesser extent. In contrast, construction, the automotive sector, and white goods remain weak, weighed down by soft domestic consumption and high levels of idle production capacity across much of the industry.

This situation is being compounded by rising import pressure across the entire value chain, especially from Chinese products. China's significant production overcapacity and low prices have led to anti-dumping cases in markets around the world.

According to AA, the energy sector remains the main driver of steel demand and offers the strongest outlook. High activity levels at the Vaca Muerta gas reserves, together with strong use of drilling equipment fleets and transport infrastructure expansions, continue to support demand for seamless pipes and specialty steels. The outlook remains very positive, supported by new projects and infrastructure growth linked to hydrocarbon development.

For its turn, agricultural machinery shows divergent performance across segments. A punctual recovery in unit sales is observed, particularly for harvesters and specific implements, while demand for tractors and seeders reflects greater caution, AA said.
