The world's largest steel company, ArcelorMittal, has plans to increase its output of quenched and tempered plate across its US plate mills to meet the high demand for armor.

As military demand remains strong for hardened and strengthened plate, commercial supply has been tight. The US government's high demand for armor has limited ArcelorMittal's ability to meet the commercial needs for this product.

The company plans to increase capacity by 50,000 net tons throughout 2008 without disruptions to existing operations in order to keep up with both military and commercial demands. The added tonnage will come from the company's plate facilities in Coatesville and Conshohocken, PA and Burns Harbor and Gary, IN.
