ArcelorMittal to supply low-carbon steel for window systems

Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal has announced that it will cooperate with Denmark-based manufacturer of window systems Velux Group to lower the carbon footprint of the steels used in the latter’s roof windows.

The companies aim to reduce carbon by up to 70 percent (depending on the type of steel product used) compared with conventionally produced steel.

ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced flat steel is produced using a minimum of 75 percent scrap and 100 percent renewable electricity. It will now be tested in Velux’ Gniezno plant in Poland, to see how it performs in hinges and brackets.

Velux Group aims to halve value chain emissions by 2030.
