ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian subsidiary of global steelmaker ArcelorMittal, has announced that in 2017 its capital and operating expenses increased by 48 percent year on year to UAH 9 billion ($335.99 million). The funds were used to build new units and overhaul equipment, as well as to improve the state of the environment.
As part of its investment program in 2017, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih started construction of two new continuous casting machines (Nos. 2 and 3) last year to increase productivity. At the moment, construction work and installation of metal structures is being carried out and the launch of new equipment is planned by the end of the current year. In addition, the reconstruction of the complex of coke batteries Nos. 5 and 6 is nearing completion. The sixth battery started operations in July last year, while the launch of the fifth battery is expected in March or April this year. The company also continues to update the sintering shop No. 2 in order to reduce the impact of production on the environment, and to increase productivity and reliability of equipment.
Meanwhile, in 2018 ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will continue to implement its investment program and modernization in all its structural divisions. The total investment in the development of production until 2020 will be $1.2-1.5 billion.
