ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian subsidiary of global steel giant ArcelorMittal, has announced that it has started hot tests of its coke oven battery No. 5, which will minimize its purchases of coke.

The company started the construction of the complex of coke oven batteries Nos. 5 and 6 in 2013 and the coke oven battery No. 6 was put into operation last year. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih stated that the overall investment in these coke oven batteries amounted to $160 million and the project has become the largest investment project of the company.

According to the company’s statement, with the launch of the sixth battery, it reduced the volume of purchased coke by approximately 40-50 percent. And after the commissioning of the fifth battery, ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih will produce almost all of the coke it needs.
