ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian subsidiary of global steelmaker ArcelorMittal, has finished an upgrade of its small section mill No. 250-4, which will lead to higher efficiency of rebar production, better quality, and increase production capability by 30 percent.

The mill No. 250-4 will increase the usage of casting billet 130 mm and 150 mm sizes for rebar and rebar-in-coils production, while previously it used mostly 80 mm billets from older equipment. “Owing to the stage by stage upgrade, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will increase the output of rebar from cast billets. This will reduce costs, improve the quality of rebar, reduce the number of complaints from consumers and expand the product range,” the producer said in its release.

The modernization started in early 2019 and has cost about $50 million. The production capability of the mill will increase from 800,000 mt of rebar per year to 1.04 million mt per year.  Moreover, the use of energy resources will decrease and emissions of the major pollutant parts will be cut by 131 mt per year.
