ArcelorMittal in talks to purchase Kremikovtzi

Representatives of the world's largest steel producer ArcelorMittal met with the Bulgarian Prime Minister Petar Dimitrov on Wednesday to negotiate the potential purchase of the country's largest steelmaker Kremikovtzi, which currently belongs to Global Steel Holding and Lakshmi Mittal's younger brother Pramod Mittal.

ArcelorMittal has emphasized that it will be able to cope with all the problems Kremikovtzi is facing at the moment. Yet, the representatives of the steel giant said no deal had been reached so far.

While the Mittal brothers are struggling over the control of the mill, Kremikovtzi's workers have gone back on strike to protest about the delay in the payment of February salaries. The Workers' Strike Committee announced that there had been negotiations with Kremikovtzi's management, which promised to pay all due salaries and food allowances by Orthodox Easter.

Meanwhile, trade union representatives have warned that Kremikovtzi is about to go bankrupt in the absence of urgent financial support.
