ArcelorMittal Europe, a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal, has announced that it has launched a new low-carbon heavy plate up to 18 mt, in line with its decarbonization targets.
The product in question is made from the company’s renowned XCarb® steel and produced in electric arc furnaces using almost 100 percent scrap steel and 100 percent renewable energy.
According to ArcelorMittal, these heavy plates offer about 60 percent lower carbon emissions compared to conventional counterparts.
The company is the first producer in Europe that is able to produce low-carbon plates in these dimensions.
ArcelorMittal Europe aims to reduce carbon emissions by 35 percent by 2030, and to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
