Anshan Steel’s Bayuquan project posts new progress

On August 15, the No. 3 coke battery of Anshan Iron and Steel Co.'s Bayuquan steelmaking project underwent formal ignition and heating of its furnace. On August 16, the feeder of the No. 1 sinter plant of 405 square meters was put into production.

The sinter plant in question is Anshan Steel's largest, and, according to the project director, it covers an area of 183,800 square meters and is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 4.67 million metric tons of high alkalinity cold sinter ore.

The completion of the Bayuquan project in 2009 is expected to increase Anshan Steel's annual capacity by around five million mt to 20 million mt. New products from the Bayuquan project will include heavy plates, to be used mainly for shipbuilding and automobile manufacturing.
