Ukrainian steelmaker Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk), a subsidiary of Ukrainian steel producer Industrial Union of Donbass (ISD), plans to decrease slab shipments in May by 20 percent compared to April, to 200,000-205,000 mt. This reduction in semi-finished steel shipments is caused by rising demand for hot rolled flat steel. In April, the company decreased shipments of slabs by eight percent compared to March, to 255,000 mt.

In May, Alchevsk plans to produce 110,000 mt of hot rolled flat steel, almost double the volume in April. In May the company plans to increase crude steel production by 12 percent compared to April, to 340,000 mt.

In January-April, Alchevsk produced more than 1.2 million mt of crude steel, up four percent compared to the same period of last year.
