AK Steel announces tentative Ashland labor contract

AK Steel announced today (September 12) it has reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers (USW) at its Ashland Works in Kentucky. The terms of the new labor contract will cover the new 750 hourly maintenance and production employees of USW Local 1865. AK Steel president and CEO James Wainscott said, “We are pleased that have reached a tentative agreement that both parties believe serves their needs in this competitive environment.” The agreement is subject to ratification by Local 1865 members. USW spokesperson John Duray told SteelOrbis that the union will not comment on the agreement until it is finalized, which could be as soon as next week. AK said all planned production and maintenance work will continue during the ratification process.
