AHMSA repairs furnaces at coking plant

Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) said late Friday it will repair 35 furnaces at its coking unit located inside its No. 1 steelworks.

AHMSA said it will rebuild block No. 5 at its coking unit by replacing 4,000 mt of firebricks covering the inner part of the furnaces. The steelmaker said block No. 5 has 35 furnaces. AHMSA said it will employ 150 direct jobs through third party suppliers.

The repairs will take about 15 months, the company said.
