After installation of ladle furnace Baku raises its production capacity

Azerbaijyan's sole billet and rebar producer Baku Steel is planning to install a ladle furnace in order to raise its annual capacity to 325'000 tons in the mid of 2004. The company has now an annual capacity of 240'000 tons. Upon the completion of the new transformer installation, the company foresees to expand its annual production capacity to 260'000 tons by November-December this year. Furthermore, by the end of the year a new reactor will be installed to neutralise fluctuations in the local power supply. Baku Steel supplies annually 140'000 tons of rebar and 36'000 tons of billet for nearby countries such as Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia and Iran. Iran is Baku's largest export market. According to company authorities, the production levels will depend on market conditions.
