Rio Tinto subsidiary Coal & Allied, which operates the Mount Thorley Warkworth mining complex in New South Wales, has stated that the decision by the New South Wales Land and Environment Court overturning a state government approval for the extension of the coal mining complex has put 1,300 jobs at risk.

Coal & Allied acting managing director Darren Yeates said that the company will need to conduct a review of the court judgment to determine its options. It will also undertake a thorough review into the viability of the Mount Thorley Warkworth operation.
