The local Chinese steel pipe market has continued to move on a downward trend in the past week.
As of April 20, in China's three main steel markets, i.e., Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, the average price of 20# (GB/T8162-1999) grade 108 mm x 4.5 mm seamless pipe now stands at $627/mt (RMB 4,317/mt), with 20# (GB/T8163-1999) grade 219 mm x 6 mm seamless pipe at $635/mt (RMB 4,366/mt). Meanwhile, on the same date, Q195-215 grade 48 mm x 3.25 mm welded pipe and Q215-235 grade 114 mm x 3.75 mm welded pipe prices in the above markets are standing at $499/mt (RMB 3,430/mt) and $498/mt (RMB 3,426/mt) respectively. All the above prices include 17 percent VAT.
The local Chinese seamless pipe market has continued its downward trend in the past seven days, mainly due to the ongoing decreases seen in prices of billet, while raw material prices have also declined. Overall trading activity remains weak, with negative sentiment prevailing among traders and with downstream buyers maintaining a wait-and-see stance. As for the coming week, it is believed domestic seamless pipe prices will continue to decrease, though by smaller margins.
The Chinese domestic welded pipe market has moved on a soft trend during the past week, amid the overall downward movement of prices of steel and raw materials in China. Inventories in the market are at high levels, while trading activity is weak, with downstream buyers deciding to wait and see. As for the week ahead, the market is expected to maintain its downward trend.
