In late May, SteelOrbis reported high carbon ferrochrome (6-8 percent carbon, 60-65 percent chromium, maximum 2 percent silicon) trading at $3,108-3,262/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh. At the time, a source noted that the range was expected to “narrow toward the top end” with third quarter negotiations in June.
On June 20, sources note that the trading price has declined to $3,086-3,196/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh. The price shift reflects a decrease of $22/mt from the bottom of the previous range and $66/mt from the top of the same range. The slip in prices is attributed to the overall downtrend of the ferrochrome market in Europe and Asia despite temporary recoveries in China.
