Turkish mills adjust local scrap purchase prices in line with their needs

Turkish mills have adjusted their local scrap purchase prices in accordance with their needs, though the general price range has not changed on Turkish lira basis. As the Turkish lira has been depreciating against the US dollar for weeks now, dollar-based prices in Turkey’s domestic scrap market have moved down. The lack of an overall price rise shows that Turkish mills are not just exerting pressure on import scrap prices, they are also not inclined to pay higher levels for local scrap. The general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has moved sideways in the range of TRY 12,400-14,000/mt. Due to the fluctuations observed in the exchange rate, the dollar-based quotations have softened from $304-343/mt to $301-340/mt.
