At the end of March negotiations, the domestic scrap market in Poland has been relatively stable compared to February, with only a few price adjustments for the purchase of some categories.
While most producers have kept their purchase prices stable month on month, one of the leading Polish mills has increased its purchase prices for E5 scrap by around €8/mt and reduced its purchase prices for E3 scrap by around €4/mt.
Demand is reported to be continuing at regular levels, similar to scrap supply. Nonetheless, the effect of the export ban introduced by Ukraine continues to have non-negligible effects on the Polish market.
As for exports, a source has reported that HMS scrap prices have increased in the Baltic area, but SteelOrbis has not received confirmation of the new levels by the time of publication.
However, the segment remains in a critical position: scrap demand from Turkey is potentially higher, as are scrap sales prices to the same destination, but, with a freight cost of around $55-60/mt and increased collection prices, it is difficult for Turkish mills to maintain decent margins.
As a result, it is likely that - as already mentioned by SteelOrbis - scrap exports from Poland will still remain relatively stationary, waiting for a more defined signal from destination markets.
